Depression, Stress and Anxiety

Psychiatric drugs make many millions of dollars - but look at the collateral damage

Andy Behrman, a former spokesman for Abilify and Bristol Myers Squibb, which manufactures Abilify, stopped taking the drug in order to avoid the final side effects—coma and death. He made a short video warning you about the drug:

If a former spokesman for the company Bristol Myers Squibb is sticking his neck out to warn you, how warm and fuzzy does that make you feel about what the pharmaceutical companies are telling you?  New Zealand Doctor Online believes however that Abilify (Aripiprazole) is "well tolerated". Perhaps Mr. Behrman should be more tolerant to coma and death, after all, they are only "side effects".

The Desponderata

"Go passively amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in social exclusion.
As far as possible, while managing your manic-depressive tendencies, be on good terms with all persons you meet online.
They do not know you, child of Google. This is your strength. Strive to be OK. And remember - there are always selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors."   Helen Smith
EricRviewjpeg_2.jpgEverybody gets anxious sometimes and many of us have one fear or another. Depression is a common term used when somebody has lost interest in life, is unhappy, moody or displays one of many different types of behavioural charcteristics which don't fit the "norm". Many people are turning away from drug based treatments for such complaints, and rightly so. You do have options, I hope my articles can help.

Anxiety

Do you ever get anxious at times? Is anxiety really something that only people with mental illness suffer from? Judging by the amount of people with physical complaints who have some type of fear or anxiety I have seen over the years, I’m sure that many people can relate to some form or another of anxiety. Anxiety is one of the most common emotionally based health problems, and about two out of every hundred people will experience an anxiety disorder. In this article, let’s take a closer look at this common complaint, how it affects your body and what steps you can do to identify and control your bodily responses to anxiety.

Cultivate Your Calmness

This article will focus on tension and how you can learn to relax your mind and start to reduce the amount of tension you develop and store around your body. Many patients I have seen over time suffer from tension and are blissfully unaware aware how stress not only affects their moods, but can also result in a tight neck and shoulders or result in a period pain, digestive upsets or a tension headache which is the most common reason why people get headaches and rely of pain pills. Have you got twenty minutes three times a week, or just one hour a week to spare? By adopting a few simple techniques you will be able to free yourself from this avoidable torment and rarely ever have to resort to "pain killing" drugs again.

Beating Negative Thinking.

Which came first, the depression or the pessimistic thoughts? the answer may surprise you! In many cases, depression actually is the result of habitual negative thoughts. When bad things happen, we begin chastising ourselves with thoughts such as: "I’m no good, I’m a total failure" or "Nothing ever goes my way", or "I’m fat, stupid, lazy", etc. Our feelings constantly follow what we are thinking, and negative thoughts like these can send us spiraling down into anxiety and depression.

Mood Disorders

When you are twenty years of age, you generally have little concern for your mental or emotional health. But one day this all changes, you wake up and discover you have turned 40, and you may notice that as you age into your 50’s, 60’s and 70’s that you may not be “the sharpest tool in the shed”, your short term memory has seen better days, your attention span, focus and concentration are starting to slip, and you may even be a little slow or unsteady on your feet. Genetics do play a role in brain health, no doubt, and some of us are blessed with incredible brain power regardless of age. But for the most of us this is simply not the case, and anything we can do to improve the functioning of the brain as we age is a bonus. Well, there are ways this can be achieved. Click on the links in this article and let's have a look at some lifestyle and nutritional intervention.

Antidepressant Drugs No Better Than Placebo

It appears that the antidepressant drug you may be taking is probably no more effective than taking a sugar pill. A recent "meta-analysis" (a big study which looks at lots of smaller studies) has revealed exactly this.

6 Things To Make You Happy

I have often read that scientists have argued that your happiness is largely determined by genes and your state of health at a particular time, including several other factors mostly outside of your control. My belief is while this maybe true to some extent, your happiness is something you can create on a daily basis.
I am a firm believer that you are as happy as you make up your mind to be. While there are many things that can make you happy, I'd like to look at six small things that can make a huge difference in your life if you just let them.
