Many women suffer PMS and in fact it is one of the more common reasons they will come to a naturopathic clinic. The term PMT and PMS are interchangeable terms. Some people use the term PMT (premenstrual tension) to describe the emotional problems faced with premenstrual problems such as tension, anxiety, irritability are tearfulness. The acronym PMS (premenstrual syndrome) more accurately describes the fluctuating syndrome many women experience before their period involving a combination of both emotional and physical complaints. It is now widely recognised that some women with premenstrual disorders experience a markedly compromised quality of life and ability to function normally in daily life, so let’s have a look at this common complaint and how we can offer assistance with natural medicine.
Most lumps in the breast are benign (non-cancerous). Most women have a lump in their breast at some stage in their lives, particularly before the menstrual period, when normal breast tissue, under the influence of hormones, is more likely to become prominent and lumpy. As frightening as discovering a lump in your breast, it is important to bear in mind that most breast lumps are not cancer. Lumps should not be disregarded, however. Here is an article which can give you a few tips on prevention and treatment of breast lumps, we look at fibroadenomas, fibrocystic breast disease and I'll show you five different 3-month breast lump treatment plans.
It is surprising how many women we see with polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) in the naturopathic clinic, but why? My guess would be that many of these women find their doctor unhelpful with hormonal conditions like PCOD and endometriosis, as many just do the standard blood tests and then recommended certain drugs or the pill and are told that little else can be done. In fact, a great deal can be done but it takes time, and a busy GP does not have the luxury of spending time with the patient these days. Little advice is given in terms of the all important diet and lifestyle changes required. Because of the complex nature of PCOD, I feel that it is important that women with PCOD be a little bit educated about and understand the health implications related to this syndrome. Let’s take a look at this all too common complaint and see what recommendations the naturopath can offer.
(SLE) Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects the body's connective tissues. SLE, like all auto-immune conditions, occurs when the body produces abnormal antibodies that attack normal body tissue as if it were a foreign invader. The immune system normally accepts its own tissues, and protects the body by producing antibodies or proteins that attach to and destroy foreign invaders, such as bacteria or viruses. In people with lupus, the immune system, for yet undiscovered reasons, produces antibodies that target the body’s own healthy cells, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, disability or death.
A diagnosis of cervical dysplasia (CD) can be scary because of the association between CD and cervical cancer. I can assure you, the vast majority of women with cervical dysplasia do not develop cancer, and most low cell grade smears revert to normal with effective natural treatment. However, cervical dysplasia should not be ignored, it is a pre-cancerous condition which indicates that the cells of the cervix are changing and may eventually become cancerous if left untreated.
