Professional Associations

New Zealand Society of Naturopaths Inc. New Zealand Society of Naturopaths Inc.

Welcome to the Society of Naturopath's web site. We hope you will find a wealth of information for practitioners, and members of the general public, on issues relating to individual and community health and well being. Please note that the New Zealand Society of Naturopaths includes only those Practitioners who have completed accredited courses and are fully qualified and trained to standards recognised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
The New Zealand Society of Naturopaths Incorporated was established in 1989 in response to a growth in interest in the natural health field.

The New Zealand Natural Medicine Association The New Zealand Natural Medicine Association
The NZNMA (New Zealand Natural Medicine Association) was established in the early 1990s as a professional, non-profit organization of health professionals dedicated to the promotion of integrative healthcare incorporating Allopathic Complementary and Alternative Healthcare.

The aims of the association include research and education in all aspects of nutritional and environmental medicine as they pertain to the preservation of health and prevention of disease, providing treatment options to optimise health in the community. The NZNMA is independent of all governments, government agencies and other organisations and relies solely on membership fees for funding.

Associate membership is available to registered health providers with tertiary degrees, such as pharmacists, chiropractors, psychologists and registered nurses.

Natural Medicine Colleges

The Naturopathy College of New Zealand The Naturopathy College of New Zealand
The Naturopathic College of New Zealand has for over twenty years aimed to educate people into a better way of finding and maintaining health. Although medicine and surgery, we believe, are sometimes necessary - there are alternative methods and medicines that can keep you healthy and restore health in times of sickness. Today there is a huge swell of interest in natural therapies and there is a great need for qualified people, and as well there is a need for those with knowledge to share in whatever situation they live in. Australia and New Zealand are leaders in distance education and we want to provide an education of excellence for you in your own home.

Wellpark College of Natural Therapies Wellpark College of Natural Therapies

Wellpark College of Natural Therapies is an NZQA-registered private training establishment. It offers tertiary education in Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine, Massage, Aromatherapy, Ayurvedic Medicine, Yoga and Medical Sciences. The college is dedicated to integrated medicine. In this healthcare model, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and natural therapists work together to determine individual health plans that recognise the whole person (mind, body and spirit), optimise wellness and effect the best possible recovery from illness.  Wellpark’s proposal for a national prgramme of wellness ties in with NZ Ministry of Health priorities, most of which relate to lifestyle and life choices. We envisage national healthcare that, unlike the present ‘ambulance at the bottom of the cliff’ system, educates individuals on how to achieve balance in life. This will improve the health of individuals and, ultimately, that of their families and communities. Wellpark is moving towards research-based teaching and staff-conducted research projects. We recognise that the Western medical model is based on evidence-based medicine. While natural medicine has grown through generations of wisdom from many cultures, it too must prove its efficacy.

The future for natural therapies is exciting. The use of natural medicines is growing annually as individuals take responsibility for their health and wellbeing. The more paternalistic models of medicine are being challenged. The first goal for natural therapies students is to find out how to manage their own physical health, mental wellbeing and spiritual awareness. They can then assist others in this process of self-discovery. Such work has many implications for our communities. It will bring a lifetime of rewards.

Canterbury College of Natural Medicine Canterbury College of Natural Medicine
CCNM has been delivering courses in Natural Medicine for the last 20 years and has a well-earned reputation for academic and clinical excellence. The college and clinic deliver an integrative model of both education and health care.  By developing truly integrative courses that focus on medical knowledge and clinical excellence along with an understanding and respect for traditional knowledge and healing systems, CCNM ensures that students who graduate from professional courses fit well within a medical model while recognizing that health involves more than disease processes and is indeed multi factorial with physical, spiritual, social, cultural, psychological and environmental interplay.  In addition to the quality education the College provides, we promote a positive and supportive environment and encourage students along a path of professional and personal discovery and growth.

South Pacific College of Natural Therapies South Pacific College of Natural Therapies

South Pacific College of Natural Therapies (SPCNT) has been offering qualifications in Natural Therapies, in NZ, since 1940. Staff at the College are highly qualified and experienced. The College is accredited by NZQA to teach the Diploma in Naturopathy and the Diploma in Herbal Medicine. The diplomas are usually studied concurrently over three years full-time but may be studied part-time. SPCNT has a strategic alliance with Charles Sturt University (CSU), a leading distance education University in Australia. This enables SPCNT students to receive CSU's Bachelor of Health Science (Complementary Medicine) upon completion of SPCNT's diplomas which include four CSU courses.  On completion of the Diplomas, graduates have obtained positions as practitioners in their own or shared practices; as consultants in herbal, pharmaceutical, dietary supplement companies; in retail; and as educators.

Australian College of Natural Medicine Australian College of Natural Medicine

This is the website of The Australian College of Natural Medicine (ACNM), where I completed most of my initial training. They are Australia's biggest natural medicine college, and the Brisbane campus has currrently the largest library of natural medicine books in the Southern Hemisphere! Take a good look at the website, and you will see just how big natural medicine has become in Australia in the past 31 years since this outstanding provider on natural medicine first started. Dr. Peter Sherwood had a vision to eventually create a college of excellence, he has delivered extremely well. ACNM is one of the leading colleges in the world now, and I believe one day will equal Bastyr University in Seattle.
